NICC
Established in 1998, NICC has developed into an informal support organisation and a spokesperson for visual artists. The realisation of the artist statute in 2003, the active advice service to artists and the stimulation of a national studio policy are shining examples of the pilot function of NICC.
NICC still takes the lead in the recognition of the position of the artist, the professionalization of the arts sector and the opening up of the art practice. NICC is an easily accessible information service for visual artists and all those who work with artists. NICC informs and advises visual artists, authorities and the cultural sector about the professionalization of the art practice.
The board of council of NICC is entirely composed by visual artists. Professional artists Guillaume Bijl, Koen van den Broek, Wim Catrysse, Rinus Van De Velde, Wim Waelput, Nathalie Hunter, Lode Geens, Timothy Segers, Mark Swysen, Jan Van Imschoot, Filip Gilissen and Gert Verhoeven have chosen the Tulpstraat – where Extra City is also based – as the focal point of their artistic activities. NICC and Extra City, each parting from their own identity, seek a synergy in the promotion of contemporary art and culture on a local, regional and international level.
